Tour No. 112

Elephants- Temple – Boat on the Mekong – Golden Triangle – White Temple

Pick-up at the hotel at 7 a.m.

Our first hop, the way to Chiang Rai, lasts about 3 hours. There, we will visit the splendid White Temple, “Wat Rong Khun”, created by the famous Thai artist Chalermchai Khositpipat. This unique temple is one of Thailand’s most beautiful attractions.

After that, we will proceed with a 2-hours journey to the Golden Triangle, where we‘ll first have lunch and then visit the Opium-Hall, which will tell us the history of the Golden Triangle. The museum has a very contemporary design and conveys lots of information.
Subsequently, we’ll cross the Mekong on a small boat to a Laotian village, where the famous snake whisky and souvenirs are on offer.
Back on the Thai side, there will be plenty of photo opportunities with a variety of great motives offering themselves, like the famous gate, a huge golden Buddha and elephants.
We will spend the night in a small hotel situated right at the riverbank of the Mekong, with a view on Lao on the opposite side.
In the next morning, we’ll return to Chiang Rai, where we will board a longtail boat, which will bring us on a 3-hours journey through impressive landscapes with destination Thaton.
On arrival there, we’ll first have our lunch and, after a little time for recuperation, proceed to the Thaton temple mountain with its statues and an enchanting pagoda providing a round view over the extensive surrounding area.
Then, slowly, we’ll embark on our 4-hours journey back to Chiang Mai. If time will allow so, we will stop at an elephant camp in Chiang Dao on our return trip.
